Watch: This rendition of ‘Bela Ciao’ by Mumbai Police Band leaves the internet smitten

Mumbai Police has a strong presence on social media. From perfecting the meme game to answering mundane questions with witty one-liners, Mumbai Police has always been the internet’s favourite. This time, a video shared by the city police on its Twitter handle shows the members of Khakee Studio showcasing their musical talent by performing the iconic Bela Ciao composition.

Clad in khakis, the band members can be seen playing the iconic tune on saxophone, trumpet, conga drum and other instruments.

“Mumbaikars! Please enjoy, our police band is performing for you!! Dates: 20-21, 27-28 May & Date 03, 04 June 2023,” read the caption of the post.

Since being posted, the video has been viewed over 58,000 times on Twitter with several comments. A user commented, “Great performance by Team Mumbai Police. Hearty congratulations to all of you for a well done performance.”

Another user wrote, “Since it’s on the internet, entire India is enjoying the performance.”

“Amazing talent,” commented a third.

Bella ciao is an Italian protest folk song that dates back to the late 19th century when women workers in paddy fields, known as mondina, sang it to describe their hardships.

During World War II, the song was modified and used by the anti-fascist Partisan movement in Italy.

As part of the Khakee Studio initiative launched in 2022, the Mumbai Police Band has also performed the James Bond theme music and a rendition of AR Rahman’s Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire.
