‘We are going to win this tournament because…’ – England captain Harry Kane

England captain Harry Kane insists England can revive their top form before 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

England began their campaign at the upcoming World Cup against Iran, looking for their first win in seven matches, after one-result defeats to Italy and Hungary and two draws with Germany.

Those results and their accompanying performance have dampened expectations around England, but Kane insists it is time to be brave.

“I look back at England 10, 15 years ago and it was almost like we were afraid to say we wanted to win it. I think one of the big changes we’ve made in the last four or five years with Gareth (Southgate) is not being afraid to say it,” Kane said in an interview with Sky Sports.

“We’re going into this tournament to win it because we believe we can. It would be wrong to think otherwise. What’s the point of going into the World Cup and not believing you can bring the trophy home?”

He acknowledged that England have been in a rough spot, but looked for positives in their recent performances, reported Xinhua news agency.

“It hasn’t been the greatest period for England in a long time. We haven’t had the same magic we’ve had since Gareth took over – but in a way that can be a good thing before a big tournament , because it doesn’t let you or even the media or the press get away. To get away.”

“We have a good belief within ourselves that we can go to Qatar and have a great tournament,” he said.
