These should be changed: Navjot Singh Sidhu reiterates demand for removal of Punjab DGP, AG

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday again made a strong demand for the removal of Punjab Police Chief and Advocate General from his own party’s government, saying otherwise “we will have no face”.

His tweets pressuring the Charanjit Singh Channi-led government to replace the Director General of Police and State Advocate General indicate that he is unhappy with some important appointments.

The development comes three days after Sidhu and Chief Minister Channi met, following which it was decided to set up a coordination panel for prior consultation on all major decisions of the state government.

Our government came in 2017 to demand justice in sacrilege cases and arrest the main culprits of drug trade and because of their failure people removed the last CM. Now, AG/DG appointments sprinkle salt on the wounds of the victims, they must be replaced or we will have no face!!,” Sidhu said in a tweet on Sunday.

Sidhu, who resigned as Punjab Congress chief a few days ago, had questioned the appointment of the Director General of Police, the state’s Advocate General and “tainted” leaders.

Sidhu has been demanding the removal of senior IPS officer Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, who has been given the additional charge of Director General of Police, Punjab. Sahota continued to lead a Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up in 2015 to probe incidents of sabotage by the then Akali government.

The cricketer-turned-politician is also questioning the appointment of actor AS Deol as the new Advocate General of the state. Deol was the lawyer of former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini after the incidents of sacrilege police firing in 2015.

On Saturday, Sidhu had said that he would stand by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, irrespective of the post they hold or not.

“Will uphold the principles of Gandhi ji and Shastri ji… post or no post @RahulGandhi and @priyankagandhi will be together! Let all the negative forces try to defeat me, but with every ounce of positive energy will bring victory to Punjab,

Victory of Punjabiyat (Universal Brotherhood) and victory of every Punjabi!!”, Sidhu Sidhu had tweeted on Saturday on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The sudden resignation of Sidhu has once again created panic in the Punjab Congress. After the power struggle between Sidhu and Amarinder, the Congress appointed Charanjit Singh Channi as the Chief Minister of Punjab in place of Amarinder Singh.
