Over the past few weeks, Shubhendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, has created a stir in the state’s political circles with his efforts to bring all opposition parties on a single platform against the ruling Trinamool Congress.

What is revealed in the Leader of the Opposition’s call for “Janata” Mahajyot (Mahagathbandhan)” and “No vote for Trinamool” Mr. Adhikari has repeatedly reached out to the Left parties. Earlier this week, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader praised Biman Bose, Left Front president and Politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The BJP leader appreciated the frugal lifestyle of the veteran leader and said that such simplicity is lacking in politics today.

West Bengal Assembly to discuss resolution against bifurcation of state

‘Those against Trinamool Congress will have to join’ Mahajyot‘ Keeping their respective ideologies intact. There will be only two camps in the fight ahead, one for Trinamool and one against Trinamool,” the BJP leader said on March 24.

The Nandigram MLA has also emphasized that all opposition parties should ensure that there should be “no vote for Trinamool”. Several civil rights groups and farmers’ groups called for “no vote for BJP” in the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal, a move that seriously dented the saffron party’s prospects.

Mr Adhikari’s recent statements come after the Sagardighi Assembly polls, where the Left Front-backed Congress candidate defeated the Trinamool candidate in a constituency with 65% minority support base. Though the BJP fielded a candidate in the bypolls, the party’s “strategic support” was acknowledged by none other than state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

The Sagardighi bypoll gave the opposition in West Bengal an example of how a united opposition can defeat the Trinamool. The state’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the alliance an “immoral” alliance.

After the bypolls held earlier this week, Mr Adhikari has been stressing the need for a “Janta”. MahajyotRegularly and reaching out to Left parties. He was even seen defending the Left parties when the Trinamool Congress leadership made allegations of corruption during teacher recruitment under the Left Front rule.

Suvendu Adhikari is not the only BJP leader in West Bengal who has publicly asked the Left parties to come together in the fight against the Trinamool. Earlier, BJP MP from Bishnupur Soumitra Khan and several other prominent leaders extended a shakha to the Left parties and urged them to join hands.

BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari says not all is bad in Left parties

The Left parties have rejected the proposal of the Leader of the Opposition without losing any time. Responding to Mr. Adhikari’s proposal, Biman Bose said that the Left parties will not participate in any program with the BJP-RSS alliance. Mr. Bose said that the Left parties have been trying to bring all anti-BJP and anti-Trinamool forces together for the last several years. Any understanding with the BJP is an uneasy proposition for the Left parties, as the two parties are ideologically different and on two sides of the political spectrum. The slogan of the Left parties in West Bengal remains ” Remove BJP save country, remove Trinamool save state (Remove BJP to save the country, defeat Trinamool to save Bengal.)

Trinamool Congress has been alleging that ram and bam (right and left)” have long joined forces against the ruling establishment. Political observers, however, feel that even though any formal electoral understanding between ‘Ram and Bam’ is far-fetched, what the officials are trying to achieve with these comments is to mobilize Left supporters at the local level before the panchayat. Silent support. Election.
