West Bengal Board officials infected with COVID, delay in exam preparation

a member of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) And West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) Have been infected with COVID-19 which has affected the preparation for class 10 or middle and class 12 or higher secondary exams. The officials have also said that if the number of Covid-19 cases increases, it will be very difficult for the boards to conduct the exams.

Class 10 exams are scheduled to be held in mid-March while class 12 exams are scheduled to be held in early April. The boards are preparing to conduct the exams but according to sources, the work has been disrupted as several members of both the boards have got infected with the virus and the administrative department has to be shut down. Many staff officers of both the boards are currently in isolation.

The acting secretary of the Higher Education Department has also been infected with Kovid-19 along with some other officers and employees. According to sources, WBBSE Chairman Kalyanmoy Gangopadhyay was supposed to visit North Bengal for an administrative meeting, however, that program has been put on hold due to the current rise in cases in the state.

Meanwhile, the secondary students are to be given test papers this time. WBBSE had earlier said that it will provide free exam papers to the students, however, due to no official opening, it could not be given. The council now fears that the increase in the number of coronavirus cases may hamper the distribution of test papers.

As per the official notification, the Higher Secondary exam will start from 2nd April to 20th April and Madhyamik exam will start from 7th March. The practical examination of class 12 is to be held from February 4 to March 4. The examinations will start at 10 am and will go on till 1:15 pm. The examinations are to be conducted in the respective schools of the candidates
