West Bengal by-election: 45.37 percent voter turnout till 1 pm. Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: West Bengal In the by-elections going on in the four assembly constituencies of the state on Saturday, 45.37 percent polling was recorded till 1 pm.
According to the Election Commission, 47.83 percent polling was recorded in Dinhata assembly seat while 52.19 percent polling was recorded in Gosaba seat.
Khardaha seat recorded 39.30 per cent polling while Shantipur seat recorded 48.02 per cent polling.
Voting began at around 7 am and will continue till 6.30 pm on Saturday.
Shantipur and Dinhata seats were vacant after BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar Nishith Pramanik respectively resigned from the assembly.
While the other two seats are being held as All India Trinamool Congress.TMC) MLA Kajal Sinha (Khardah) and Jayant Naskari (Gosaba) died due to Kovid-19.
There is a tough fight between BJP and TMC to retain their seats and capture the other two.

The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC registered a landslide victory in the elections held earlier this year, winning 213 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly. BJP has emerged as the second largest party with 77 seats.
Apart from West Bengal, voting is being held today in three parliamentary seats and 26 other assembly constituencies in different states across the country.
The results of these elections will be declared on November 2.
