West Bengal: Increase in plus 2 seats; Eligibility for Science stream reduced

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education said that the number of seats for plus two in all government schools has been increased from 275 to 400 to accommodate all successful students. The decision came after the board released its class 10 results. The results of class 10 state board exams were declared on June 3, and out of 10.98 lakh candidates, over 86% were declared successful.

Meanwhile, WBCHSE has reduced the cut-off for some subjects to 35% so that students can take science based optional subject in class 11. Also, the minimum percentage of marks has been reduced from 45%.

“As directed, the Council is pleased to publish the criterion of minimum percentage of marks in a subject, for a student to be eligible for taking up certain science-based elective subjects in the Secondary Examination or its equivalent examination. Must have passed,” he said. The notice was issued by WBCHSE on Saturday.

As per the new directive, those who want to take Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science as elective subjects need to have a minimum of 35% in Mathematics and for Biology, the cut-off in Life Science is 35%.

WBCHSE chairman Chiranjeeb Bhattacharya told PTI that the cut-off percentage marks were increased to 45% in 2021 as the class 10 board exams could not be conducted in view of the COVID-19 and almost all had to face the criteria due to high scores. was expected to complete. In another notice, the council increased the maximum number of seats in each higher secondary school from 275 to 400.
