Manoj Tiwary held not out for his family after scoring century in Ranji Trophy semi-final

Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary continued his stellar form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy with his second consecutive century on Wednesday. Tiwary, who scored 136 runs in the quarter-final against Jharkhand, also reached triple digits in the ongoing semi-final against Madhya Pradesh. Tiwary played a brilliant innings of 102 runs as Bengal scored 273 runs in the first innings. Reaching triple figures, Tiwary happily raised his bat and accepted the applause from the Bengal dressing room. Not only this, Tiwari had also taken out a handwritten note with a heart-warming message for his wife and children.

Tiwary, who is also West Bengal’s Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, pulled Bengal out of a difficult position to score their second consecutive century in India’s premier domestic competition. He also scored a century in the quarter-finals in Jharkhand.

Apart from his valor with the bat, what stole the show was his gesture to his family after scoring a century. Tiwari had kept a handwritten note above which had a heart symbol along with the names of his wife and other family members.

After restricting MP to 341 runs in the first innings, Bengal lost half of their team for just 54 runs. It was at this time that with Tiwari (102) Shahbaz Ahmed (116) kept his head down and produced a rearguard for the ages as he stitched together a stand of 183 runs, which eventually helped Bengal post a lead of less than 100 runs.

Madhya Pradesh, however, remain in the driver’s seat in the match as they have now taken a 200-run lead on the third day.
