In India, the festival of Teej is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor by young women. Dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, there are two types of Teej which are celebrated during the monsoon season, Hariyali Teej and Hartalika Teej. Although the meaning of both festivals takes inspiration from the stories of Shiva and Parvati, both have their own significance. As we celebrate Hariyali Teej today and Hartalika Teej in August, here we have detailed what is the difference between both the festivals along with their dates as per the Hindu calendar.

What is Hariyali Teej?

In English, the word Hariyali means greenery and as the name suggests, Hariyali Teej is celebrated during monsoons to celebrate the lush beauty of nature. As the season begins, Mother Earth is surrounded by greenery from all sides and hence the season of greenery can also be called as Shravan Teej.

According to Hindu mythology, Hariyali Teej is also the day when Lord Shiva accepted Goddess Parvati as his wife. To celebrate the union of Shiva and Parvati every year, this day is celebrated by devotees all over the country.

When is Hariyali Teej 2022?

This year Hariyali Teej is falling on Sunday, July 31. The special Ravi Yoga of Teej festival will start from 2.20 pm on 31st July and end at 6.04 am on 1st August.

What is Hartalika Teej?

According to legend, Hartalika Teej is celebrated because Goddess Parvati made the sacred Shiva Lingam out of sand. This program took place on the third day of Bhadrapur. Like Hariyali Teej, Hartalika Teej also signifies the union of Shiva and Parvati. It is said that Lord Shiva was so impressed by the Shiva Linga created by Parvati that he decided to marry her.

On this day women observe Nirjala fast for the long life and health of their husbands. Unmarried women can also observe a fast in search of suitable life partner.

When is Hartalika Teej 2022?

Hartalika Teej 2022 will be celebrated on 30th August this year. The special date of worship will start at 6.30 am and will continue till 8.33 am the next day. The auspicious time during Pradosh Kaal will start from 6.33 pm to 8.51 pm.
