The global average number of accounts used by WhatsApp to prevent abuse on its platform is around 8 million accounts per month.

WhatsApp said in its latest report that it has received 594 user reports in Account Support (137), Ban Appeal (316), Other Support (45), Product Support (64) and Safety (32) between June 16 and July 31. .
According to the report, 74 accounts were processed during this period.

WhatsApp explained that “Accounts Action” refers to reports where it took remedial action based on the report.
Taking action refers to either banning an account or reinstating an account already banned as a result of the complaint.

Also, the report may have been reviewed but not included as an ‘action’ for a number of reasons, including the user needs assistance to access their account or use certain features, the user may have accessed a restricted account. Restoration is requested and the request is denied, or if the reported account does not violate the laws of India or WhatsApp’s Terms of Service.

In a statement, the Facebook-owned company said its latest report includes details of user complaints and related action taken by WhatsApp as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive action to tackle abuse on its platform.

A WhatsApp spokesperson said that over the years, the platform has continuously invested in artificial intelligence and other cutting edge technology, data scientists and experts and processes to keep its users safe on the platform.

“As per the IT Rules 2021, we have published our second monthly report for a period of 46 days – from June 16 to July 31,” the spokesperson said.

The new IT rules – which came into force on May 26, require large digital platforms (with over 5 million users) to publish compliance reports every month, detailing complaints received and actions taken. Is.

Earlier, WhatsApp has emphasized that being an end to end encrypted platform, it has no visibility into the content of any message.
