WhatsApp brings back end-to-end encrypted backups for Android, iOS. see details

WhatsApp is working on making your chat back-ups more secure with end-to-end encryption. The feature was briefly available on beta versions of the messaging application for both Android and iOS, but was later removed. Now, the Facebook-owned platform has once again restored end-to-end encrypted backups for its beta users on both the operating systems.

End-to-end encrypted backup has been enabled in the latest WhatsApp for beta Android As per a report by WABetaInfo, 2.21.21.5 update and WhatsApp beta update for iOS 2.21.200.14 update.

WhatsApp had temporarily enabled the feature on the WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.21.15.5 update to protect backups from unauthorized access to Google Drive. It was later disabled in the 2.21.15.7 beta update for Android users. It was enabled once again, before iOS This time and later on Android.

To protect your backups using end-to-end encryption, you can choose a personal password or a 64-bit encryption key, which includes numbers and lowercase letters from ‘A’ to ‘F’. Once enabled, neither WhatsApp, nor the backup service provider, be it Google Drive or iCloud, will be able to backup chats or use backup encryption keys, a post posted by Facebook last month explained Was.

Users have to be careful with the password or encryption key as WhatsApp will not be able to restore its chat history if it is lost. The password or 64-bit encryption key must be entered each time a user needs to restore their chat history.

This feature is likely to be rolled out to more beta users in the coming updates. This can be found in the ‘Chat backup’ section in Settings.

In a more recent update for Android beta users, WhatsApp has redesigned the contact information page, which is similar to the interface seen for business information.
