WhatsApp updates privacy by disallowing third party apps, non-contacts. see effect

WhatsApp Introduced a new privacy update that will not allow non-contacts to see the last seen status of any person. This new feature has been rolled out for both Android and iOS enabled devices. Now, unknown users will not be able to view your last seen and online status after this update. This will further enhance the privacy of instant messaging platform users across the world. its competitors, Wire, has announced some privacy features earlier this week.

There are various third-party apps on the App Store and Google Play Store that are able to log the last seen and online status of selected contacts. People use these apps to follow other WhatsApp users, so they know when other people were online.

“After this latest fix to protect users, WhatsApp does not show last seen and online status if you have never chatted with another WhatsApp account. Since those third-party apps don’t have an active chat with you, they can’t see when you’re online,” noted WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo.

He adds, “If you can’t see the last seen of some contacts, it is because they have enabled the privacy setting “Accept My Contacts…”, which is available in WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS. WhatsApp is available on beta for some users. Leaving you for their last look.”

WhatsApp has also added a new feature that lets users select messages after they have been read to disappear by default. The new time frame could be one day or one week or three months. This is for users to save targeted messages and make the rest disappear from the chat box. WhatsApp says it can be helpful in creating special moments. Earlier it was limited to only seven days. This feature is optional.
