WhatsApp will let you add captions to forward media

WhatsApp users like to forward messages but you can only send the content and cannot change the caption.

The WhatsApp forward tool is so popular that the platform had to reduce its use in some markets. You can also forward chat, images and videos but for media content you didn’t have the option to add captions to give some context to the content you forwarded. But it looks like that could change very soon, as the platform is now beta testing the feature with select users.

WABetainfo has shared the details of this beta version available only for Android testers for now, but we expect iOS devices to experience the new option in the coming days as well. And once both the platforms have this feature running smoothly, it should be ready for public roll out.

According to the report, WhatsApp will give users the option to add new text before forwarding an image or video, allowing people to change the text of the previous caption as well. The addition of text boxes to the interface means people will have the option to edit existing text.

After all, having a relevant caption when you forward a video or image can help people have a better understanding of the action, and they’ll know why you’ve shared this media content with them. It will be interesting to see if WhatsApp makes any bulk changes to this feature before its official release, which should happen soon.

WhatsApp limits the number of forwards a person can make, and gives WhatsApp group admins the control to decide which content is appropriate for their group. In addition, WhatsApp is testing other features as well, and has added new tools for users over the past few months.
