Hindi Divas 2022: Hindi Diwas or National Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on 14 September across the country. It is a day to spread awareness about Hindi as an international language across the world and to celebrate the adoption of Hindi as one of the official languages in the country.
Apart from this, the day also marks the birth anniversary of Rajendra Simha, historian, linguist and theologian, who contributed greatly to the development of Hindi language as the official language of the country.

National Hindi Day first came into existence on September 14, 1949, when the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi as one of the official languages of India.
Hindi Diwas: Significance
Hindi is the third most spoken language globally after Mandarin and English. According to the 2011 census, the number of speakers of the language is about 43.6 percent. This number is much higher in a country where diversity is extremely pronounced.

According to folklore, the word Hindi is derived from the Persian word ‘Hind’, which means ‘Land of the Indus’. The Hindi language is also considered a heritage of India and there are many Hindi speakers in countries such as Nepal, Fiji, Tobago, Guyana, Mauritius, Trinidad and Suriname. As with many dialects and phonemes, it is spoken somewhat differently across borders.
The day marks the adoption of the language and also highlights the contribution of various linguists and writers who have contributed to the development of the language with their works.
