Who is Neelam Gorhe? Uddhav Thackrey’s close aide who joined Eknath Shinde

The high political intensity in Maharashtra is refusing to die down as the legislators keep jumping ships ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. Neelam Gorhe, a Shiv Sena Member of the Legislative Council (MLA) who belonged to the Uddhhav Thackrey faction joined the rival Eknath Shinde faction on Friday in the presence of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Interestingly, senior leader Sanjay Raut from the Uddhav Thackrey faction was recently making claims that 17 to 18 MLAs from the Eknath Shinde government are considering returning to their side and have even apologized for their mistake.

Who is Neelam Gorhe?

Neelam Gorhe is currently serving as the Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. She is an experienced legislator and has been elected to the council for four consecutive terms since 2002.

Born in 1954, Neelam Gorhe completed her graduation from Mumbai University and has a professional degree in Ayurvedic medicine. After practicing medicine for 10 years, Neelam Gorhe started social and political work in 1987.

In 1984, Neelam Gorhe founded Stree Aadhar Kendra, which aims to build a gender-neutral society and demand equal rights for women. The organization works with government institutions and ministers on policy formulation for women.

Neelam Gorhe is the third MLC from the Uddhav Thackrey camp to join the Eknath Shinde camp after Manisha Kayande and Viplove Bajaria.

Sharad Pawar’s fightback inspiring: Sanjay Raut

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Friday praised the fighting spirit of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar against the rebellion within his party. “This is what inspires us about him. (Shiv Sena founder) Balasaheb (Thackeray) was 84-86 years old. We would take inspiration from him. What is age? Mahatma Gandhi was old, but he still fought against the British,” Raut said.

Amid all the political developments, the Maharashtra Assembly’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC) decided that the monsoon session of the assembly will be held from 17 July to 4 August.
