The name ‘Rekha’ is trending on Twitter and it has nothing to do with Bollywood veteran Rekha. It is, in fact, a now-deleted thread about a woman named Rekha and her friend Shobha, who reportedly converted to Christianity and saw a turning point in their financial situation. The thread was posted by a woman with the handle ‘Candidate Shweta’. Check out the thread in the screenshot here:
“It’s like when you do a very difficult algebraic equation correctly 95% of the way, and then write ‘potato’ as your final answer.”
In the source Shweta recounts how Rekha’s children got laptops as gifts, her husband got employment in a church and their house was repaired after their conversion. Rekha feels that Shweta has done a job in some capacity. It was later described how Rekha brought her friend Shobha into the fold of Christianity. The original poster emphasized that this is why the Anti-Conversion Bill was the need of the hour. She also slammed commentators who accused her of exploiting her domestic help.
The thread has opened a conversation about caste and the names ‘Rekha’ and ‘Rekha Shobha’ have started trending on the microblogging platform. Here are some tweets:
“I am really naive as I really thought his last tweet would be a happy one where he is happy for Rekha and Shobha and the life they have created for themselves.”

“Uk Shweta was fine when LC Rekha and Shobha worshiped their false god in their financial and social miseries, but when they changed their god and became financially and socially strong they were divided.”

“I read your thread. I could draw only one conclusion – Rekha, Shobha and their family were pathetic before their conversion. The support provided by the Christian community empowered them and eased their sufferings. Good for them “

“Basically she never cared for her ‘house help’ unless both Rekha and Shobha wanted a holiday on the same day. This is largely the essence of compassion for the so-called lower caste of UC Hindus.”
