Why is Delta the deadliest COVID variant?

Of all the COVID forms, Delta is the deadliest, a new study has revealed. Five different coronavirus variants were studied for the research, including alpha, delta and three others that appeared before alpha.

Scientists trying to understand whether hosts, that is, humans infected with the virus, respond differently to different SARS-CoV-2 variants, he said, “Over the past almost three years, several SARS-CoV- There have been 2 variants. spreading around the world. But their results are very different, with the delta version being the deadliest.”

The study is published in the journal Microbiology Spectrum.

Why is the Delta variant the most dangerous COVID variant?

Explaining this, the researchers said, the immune system could not produce defense molecules against the delta variant as effectively as the other variants. Whereas the infection caused by the other four types quickly alerted the immune system, the delta variant can silently replicate in host cells.

“We have identified that the molecular mechanisms regulating the host immune response are not as potent against the delta version of SARS-CoV-2. It also involves the production of interferons, immune molecules often used for antiviral therapy. The study provides clues as to why the delta variant may spread more easily,” said Dr Krishnan Harshan, the lead investigator of the work.
