DCW chief Swati Maliwal on Friday questioned why the wrestling federation India The WFI president has not been asked to resign in the wake of sexual harassment allegations leveled against him by women wrestlers.
Eminent Indian wrestlers including Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and World Championship medalist Vinesh Phogat have been staging a sit-in against WFI president and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the past two days. Accused Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment and intimidation.

“It has been 72 hours since Indian wrestlers started their protest. Why was the resignation of the WFI president not sought? Why is the FIR not being registered regarding the allegations of sexual harassment? Why is the sports minister not trying to end the strike? Till when the country’s pride will sit on the road like this?” Maliwal asked in a tweet in Hindi.

The protesting wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, Anshu Malik, Ravi Dahiya and Sarita Mor, led by Phogat and Punia, met the union. Play Minister Anurag Thakur visited his residence here on Thursday night and demanded immediate action in the matter. Both sides were involved in a marathon meeting, which ended around 2 am, with the parties failing to find a concrete solution.
