“Will Pay Upfront, Send Link”: Twitter’s Fun On Blue Tick Fees

Elon Musk had a message for those complaining about verification fees today

Elon Musk’s move to introduce a monthly fee for a verified badge on Twitter has sparked a meme fest. Actor Kamal R Khan had a hilarious reply after Twitter announced an $8 monthly fee for a verified badge.

Mr Khan, popularly known as KRK, tweeted that he did not have time to pay blue ticks on a monthly basis and offered to pay five years back. Well, it is not so. The actor also asked Mr Musk to share the payment link.

“Dear Elon Musk, I do not have time to pay the monthly fee, so I will pay in advance for 5 years. Please, send me the link to pay,” he wrote.

Parody account Raphael Gandhi 2.0 shared a frame from the 2001 film Lagaan, comparing it to parody accounts that track the development of the new verification system.

Writer Stephen King said he wouldn’t pay $20 as a monthly fee for Blue Tick and Mr. Musk replied, “How about $8?”

Writer Naomi Dutta shared Mr Musk’s tweet and asked, “Speak the last price”. Others tweeted and complained that the price would be lower in Sarojini Nagar market.

Mr Musk had a message today for those complaining about the fee for verification, suggesting it is here to stay. “To all complainers, please keep complaining, but it will cost $8,” read his tweet.

Highlighting the benefits a user enjoys with a verified badge, Elon Musk has stated, “You will also get: priority in answers, mentions and search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam. Longer video and audio Ability to post. Half the ads. And paywall bypass for publishers who want to work with us.”
