Prime Minister a day later Narendra Modi The idea of keeping separate time in legislatures for quality debates, Congress leader P Chidambaram on Thursday took a dig at him, saying the question is whether the prime minister will ever participate in a debate in Parliament.
In fact, addressing the inaugural session of the 82nd All India Presiding Officers’ Conference, Modi asked the parliamentarians and legislatures to follow Indian values and through their conduct, convey the message to citizens to prioritize their duties. He also put forward the idea of having a separate time in legislatures for quality and healthy debate, which should be serious, dignified and devoid of political potshots at others.
Hitting out at Modi, Chidambaram tweeted, “Interesting to read that the PM stressed on the need for ‘quality debate’ in Parliament. He also suggested setting aside time for quality debate. The question is whether Will PM ever participate in a debate in Parliament?
The Congress has been alleging that the government is running away from debates on important issues in Parliament, a charge denied by the government that the opposition is obstructing the Houses and stalling legislative work.
