A day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi approved the proposal for appointment of seven working presidents in the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), including Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, he said he would strengthen the party in the state.

“I have officially joined the Congress party. I am grateful to the party leaders in Gujarat and Delhi that they have given me such an important position as working president. All other leaders in the post of working president are strong leaders. We are the voices. Will raise people and stay on the ground to fight against injustice,” Mevani told India Today.

Mevani said, “We will strengthen the Congress on the ground and prepare a blueprint for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections.” The responsibility for all the seven working presidents is huge.

“We will give jobs, government posts will be filled, women empowerment, we will get the best manifesto and ensure that work will start and promises are fulfilled in 6 months or 100 days after Congress government is formed. We will move forward Agitation And Satyagraha,” He added.

Asked if Gujarat would have a more powerful Congress, Mevani replied, “Obviously yes, and only one thing: we all must fight on the ground. There is no other option.”
