Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the government is planning to make seat belt alarm system for rear seats mandatory for vehicle manufacturers to prevent any further road accidents. Currently, it is mandatory for all vehicle manufacturers to provide seat belt reminders only for front seat passengers. With this move, the government hopes that the number of fatal road accidents will come down in a big way and people will become more alert as now the traffic police will impose heavy challans.
Addressing a Business Standard event to celebrate India@75, he said, “Due to the death of Cyrus Mistry in a car accident, we have decided that vehicles will have a seat belt beep system for the rear seats as well.”
Although passengers in the rear seats not wearing seat belts attract a fine of Rs 1,000 under Rule 138(3) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), most people are either unaware of this mandatory rule or simply ignore them. give.
