Will the service charge continue in the restaurant? Here’s what the Delhi HC said

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday stayed the recent guidelines prohibiting hotels and restaurants from automatically levying service charges on food bills.

Recently, the Center dealt a blow with restaurants across the country barring the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) from adding service charges to food bills. According to the CCPA, the latest guidelines are aimed at preventing unfair trade practices that violate consumer rights.

The CCPA, in its guidelines, said that hotels or restaurants shall not compel a consumer to pay service charges and shall clearly inform the consumer that the service charge is at the discretion of the consumer and there is no restriction on the customer’s entry on that ground. Will happen.
