With Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Theme, BJP Turns Kullu Dussehra into Showcase Event Ahead of Himachal Elections

With the upcoming elections in mind, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Himachal is working in full force to turn the annual Kullu Dussehra festival into a mega event with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The Prime Minister is likely to attend the opening ceremony on Wednesday.

Considering that the BJP is preparing its star campaigner for the elections, the local administration has prepared a series of cultural programs during the week, which will be attended by popular artistes.

The line-up includes the Ruhani sisters in Sufi Sandhya on the first day of Punjabi Raat by Nitin Kumar. On the third evening the Sabri Bandhu night of Qawwali, on the fourth evening Thakur Das Rathi will be the main attraction in the mixed cultural night, while on the fifth evening there will be a performance of the police band ‘Harmony of Pines’.

International groups from Bhutan, Ukraine, Russia and Malaysia will perform at the event, besides artists from different states are expected to showcase their culture through various performances.

The organizers have also lined up the International Folk Dance Festival and several events related to the traditions and culture of the state. Also a Maha Naati (folk song) will be organized on the third day of the festival, in which around 8,000 women will participate. The theme of these events will include PM’s pet project like Save Beti.

BJP sources said the party is trying to make the event prominent to showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage and government programs launched by the state as well as the central government. “Who would be the best person to inaugurate such an event? The people of the state feel connected with the festival and it will provide an opportunity to the party to showcase the works of the government. The Prime Minister’s participation will give it extra vigor,” said a BJP leader.

Apart from the Kullu festival, the PM is also expected to attend several inaugurations and a rally. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said, “The presence of the Prime Minister will give a boost to the campaign of the party.” Sources said the party is giving utmost importance to these events and BJP President JP Nadda is monitoring the arrangements.
