A 20-year-old woman was killed and her male friend was seriously injured after she fell from a window adjacent to the stairs on the second floor of a multi-storey shopping complex on Brigade Road on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Liya, a resident of Fraser Town, studying B.Com. at a private college, and his friend – identified as Chris Peter, a native of Andhra Pradesh – had gone to the food court of the shopping complex.

According to the police, the incident happened around 1.20 pm when they were walking on the stairs when she lost her balance and fell from the window. The police said that the window had no grill, so the window fiber sheet broke and both of them slipped from the window and fell on the ground.

Liya was taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead. Peter was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital due to multiple injuries.

Police suspect that Peter tried to save Liya when she slipped down the stairs, but she also lost her balance and fell. Cubbon Park Police have taken up a case and are waiting for Peter to recover so that he can be interrogated.
