Woman shot dead for consuming liquor in Gurudwara premises in Patiala

Patiala: A woman was shot dead on the premises of a gurudwara here for allegedly consuming liquor, police said on Monday. According to Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma, the incident took place on Sunday evening. Police said the woman, Parminder Kaur, was allegedly drinking near the ‘sarovar’ of Dukhniwar Sahib Gurdwara.

The 32-year-old woman, a resident of Urban Estate Phase I, was shot multiple times by a regular visitor to the gurdwara.

Sharma said, “Parminder Kaur was drinking near the sarovar of Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib. When the sangat saw this, they decided to take her to the manager’s office. However, a person present there shot her in a fit of rage.” “

“He fired five rounds at the woman from his 32 bore licensed revolver,” said an official statement.

Police said Kaur was taken to the hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Sources said that one person injured in the incident has been admitted to the hospital. His condition is said to be stable.

Officials said that the police have arrested the accused who is a property dealer and does not have any criminal background.
