Delhi Commission for Women has issued notice to State Bank of India to prevent women pregnant for more than three months from going to work. State Bank of India or SBI has called these women “temporarily ineligible”, tweeted Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the commission. She said the bank’s action is discriminatory and illegal as it may affect the maternity benefits provided under the law.

“State Bank of India has issued guidelines to bar pregnant women above 3 months from joining the service and has declared them ‘temporarily ineligible’. This is both discriminatory and illegal. We have asked them to withdraw this adversary. A notice has been issued demanding -women’s rule,” Ms. Maliwal said.

“The circular states that he will be treated as temporarily unfit and may be allowed to join within four months after the birth of the child,” the DCW said.

“It seems that the bank has framed rules which states that if a female candidate is three months pregnant, she will be treated as temporarily ineligible and will not be taken over immediately on her selection. This is a very serious matter. This action bank appears to be discriminatory and illegal as it is contrary to the maternity benefits provided under the Social Security Code, 2020.”

The DCW asked SBI to explain the process behind the formulation of these guidelines and the names of the officials who approved them.

SBI’s latest medical guidelines, published on December 31, say: “… if the pregnancy is more than three months, she will be treated as temporarily ineligible and may be allowed to join within four months after the birth of the child.” might.”

Earlier, female candidates who were six months pregnant were allowed to join SBI under certain conditions, which included obtaining a certificate from a gynecologist that taking employment at that stage would not affect their health.

State Bank of India is yet to react on the matter. DCW has asked SBI to respond to the notice by Tuesday.
