World Kindness Day 2021: Theme, History and Significance

Throughout the year, we commemorate historical events, or days dedicated to certain eminent personalities who have made remarkable contributions to the society. But on November 13th we celebrate a specialty, an act that can go a long way in improving the lives of many. This Saturday is World Kindness Day.

History and Significance

According to the Awareness Day website, World Kindness Day was first observed in 1998 by an organization called The World Kindness Movement, which was formed in 1997 at the Tokyo conference of like-minded compassionate organizations from around the world. In the United Kingdom, Kindness Day UK is organized by Kindness UK, a non-profit organisation.

Kindness Day UK was launched on 13 November 2010. The event has grown in popularity over the years, with a growing number of individuals, schools, charities, institutions and businesses.

In the age of social media where it is easy to troll or direct hatred towards someone without any real consequences, kindness has become rare. World Kindness Day is meant to remind us that simple acts like appreciating one’s effort can go a long way. Being kind is a win-win situation for both the recipient as well as the person taking the action. There are many ways in which one can show his kindness and inspire others to follow the same.

How can I be kind?

If you want some push towards your kindness journey you can take a look at a simple example. Imagine you have a co-worker or classmate who always does a great job with their assignments.

If you are aware of their sincere efforts, you can take some time to mention it to them, just in conversation or perhaps in a message. This will surely please your co-worker or classmate and besides, you will probably also feel good about yourself just to spread the joy a little bit.
