History was created when a team of eight disabled people reached Kumar Post on the Siachen Glacier at a height of 15,632 feet on Sunday, setting a world record as it is the first time a group of such people climbed the world’s highest battlefield. Gaya. The operation, named ‘Operation Blue Freedom’, began last month on August 15 at the Siachen Base Camp. The campaign was put together by ‘Team CLAW’ (CONCOR LAND AIR WATER) who strive to empower people with disabilities. After the Indian Army gave its approval to the group to climb the Siachen Glacier, the team started preparing for the trek.

On meeting the target, Northern Command, Indian Army tweeted that the grit of Army Special Forces veterans and team from CLAW Global made Operation Blue Freedom a resounding success.

Back in April the veterans launched a nationwide campaign inviting participants to climb the summit. The selected group was led by 9 Para Officer Major Vivek Jacob, trained 20 men and eight of them were selected to attempt the climb to the Siachen Glacier.
Claw Global also shared some personal stories of the members who set the world record. Among them were 19-year-old solo traveler and artist Akshat Rawat, who lost both his hands in an accident, and Nidhi Mishra, an international para athlete and national record holder, who was in the news.
