World Series Notebook: Hey Siri! G2. Rookie Center Fielder in

Houston: The only change to Houston’s lineup for Game 2 was energetic rookie Jose Siri in center field instead of Chas McCormick.

Siri’s first World Series debut came less than two months after she made her major league debut on 3 September after eight seasons in the minors.

While the 26-year-old Siri only played for the fourth time after this season, he is always the first to break out of the dugout and into these playoffs anything big is ever going to happen for the Astros. He once nearly knocked down 72-year-old manager Dusty Baker in a hurry to celebrate.

Baker got on it for that, but the manager likes Siri’s enthusiasm.

Its like having kids, Baker said. They give me energy. They reprimand you.

Siri conjures up the description of going on forever at level 100. He wears a gold and diamond medallion with 100 emoji around his neck, and has it tattooed on the inside of his left arm as well.

It’s really important to have someone who maintains the energy in the clubhouse, who maintains the energy in the dugout, he said in Spanish through an interpreter.

Asked about her energy and enthusiasm levels before starting Game 2, Siri replied, 200.

under the sun and stars

The sun was shining through the glass over parts of the outfield during both teams’ batting practice, and the retractable roof was open before the first pitch.

When Game 2 began, there were clear and sunny skies, but a small portion of the deep center area was already in shadow. The temperature at game time was 73 degrees, and the entire evening was only expected to drop into the upper 60s.

Conditions were significantly different that day when a strong storm hit the Houston area and tornado warnings began.

As far as early weather forecasts in Atlanta’s Truist Park for Game 3 on Friday and Game 4 on Saturday go, rain is expected on both days with temperatures in the 50 to upper 50s. There was a 90% chance of rain on Thursday, a day off the chain.

walking option

Speedy outfielder Terence Gore is also on the World Series roster for the Braves after not making it to the NL Championship Series, or playing a regular season game for Atlanta.

With four games out of a possible seven in American League parks and the use of a designated hitter, Gore is part of the roster to be the pinch-runner.

Just knowing and just adding up with these games… because we didn’t use the extra guy as much as I think we thought we would. Manager Brian Snitkar said: “I think a good item on the bench in a position where it’s a big run. For some guys there we’d probably run, and there we just kind of felt that extra was more important than the hitter.

Gore has only two at-bats in nine career playoff games with Kansas City, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta in the NL Division Series. He is five out of six on stolen base attempts and has scored three.

prior experience

Houston has 13 players on its roster with previous World Series experience. They were all for the Astros in 2017 or 2019 or both.

With the Braves in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1999, only six of their players who played in the last World Series have done so for seven different teams since 2012. They are Travis Darnaud (2015 New York Mets), Terence Gore (2014-15). Kansas City Royals), Charlie Morton (2017 Astros, 2020 Tampa Bay Rays), Jock Pedersen (2017-18, 2020 Los Angeles Dodgers), Drew Smiley (2012 Detroit Tigers), and George Soler (2016 Chicago Cubs).

short hops

Game 6 of the 2014 World Series saw every Braves starter hit in Game 1 for the first time since Kansas City. It was the 25th time overall, but in the first opener of the World Series. … it is only the second time since MLB’s move to a six-division format in 1994 that the World Series has matched teams from the NL East and the AL West. The other was the Astros against the Washington Nationals two years ago. …Two Hall of Fame players from the Astros threw ceremonial first pitches: Craig Biggio before Game 1 followed by Jeff Bagwell before Game 2. They were on the field together for a ceremonial first pitch ahead of Game 7 of the 2019 World Series in the minute. Maid Park.
