Mumbai Indians get their 5th win in WPL 2023, thus taking 10 points and qualifying for playoffs

Mumbai Indians on Tuesday became the first team to qualify for the playoffs in the Women’s Premier League. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side continued their dominance by securing their fifth consecutive win as they defeated Gujarat Giants by 55 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Captain Kaur played a brilliant knock of 51 runs, helping her side reach a total of 162/8. Yastika Bhatia gave the table toppers another steady start as she scored 44, and was partnered by Nat Sciver-Brunt, who added 36.

Amelia Kerr also scored 19 runs while Ashley Gardner was the pick of the bowlers for the Giants as she took 3 wickets.

In reply, Sneh Rana’s men could only manage 107/9 in 20 overs, thus giving the Indians a crucial victory.

Harleen Deol was the top run-scorer for her team with 22 runs while Hayley Mathews registered 3 scalps.

With five wins in as many matches, Harmanpreet and co continued their winning streak and further consolidated their place at the top of the table.

After collecting 10 points, Mumbai Indians cemented their place in the top three and qualified for the playoffs as they continue to set the pace for the other teams.

Behind Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals are at the second spot with 8 points with four wins from five matches.

UP Warriors, who will play against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the DY Patil Stadium on March 15, are third with 4 points after having tasted two wins and two losses.

The Giants, meanwhile, remain fourth with just two points from five matches after their latest defeat.
