Yogi Adityanath blames previous governments for farmer suicides in Uttar Pradesh

“The anti-farmer approach and unscientific policies of the earlier governments led the farmers to commit suicide. Many of them moved away from agriculture,” Mr. Adityanath said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on December 23 blamed the policies of previous governments for the farmers’ suicides in the state.

Speaking at the ‘Kisan Diwas’ program organized in Lucknow on the 119th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, Shri Adityanath said that the BJP government is upholding his belief that India’s path to prosperity lies through its agricultural fields.

“The anti-farmer approach and unscientific policies of the earlier governments led the farmers to commit suicide. Many of them moved away from agriculture. After BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh, we waived their loan of Rs 36,000 crore,” the chief minister said.

Shri Adityanath also said that the policies of the Narendra Modi government for farmers are in front of everyone. Remembering Charan Singh, Mr Adityanath said that the BJP government is fulfilling the dream of the former farmer leader with welfare measures both at the state and central level.

The Chief Minister said that though the Central Government had introduced the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in the country in 1967, it was implemented in the true sense by the Modi government.

Mr. Adityanath also said that his government has eliminated the role of middlemen between farmers and buyers as the government is buying directly from farmers. Expressing concern over the use of hazardous chemicals in agriculture, Mr Adityanath backed the Prime Minister’s ‘measure’ of practicing cow-based agriculture. This will also help in promoting cow protection and faith. Productivity in farming will also increase relatively,” he said.
