Thiruvananthapuram:

Two Youth Congress workers were arrested on Wednesday for showing black flag to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s convoy while he was on his way to an event in the state capital.

Police said the incident took place around 11 am when the Chief Minister was on his way to EMS Academy in Vilapilsala.

An official of Vilappilsala police station said two Youth Congress workers were arrested and a case was registered against them for obstructing traffic and violating orders of a government official.

The officer said that since the offenses were bailable, he was released on station bail after the VIP agitation.

Congress MLA Shafi Parambil, in a Facebook post, said the Youth Congress raised a black flag against the chief minister and said that despite the security arrangements, they would protest against Vijayan in view of the current alleged emergency-like situation in the state.

The black flag was displayed in protest against the arrest of Congress leader KS Sabrinadhan a day earlier for allegedly hatching a conspiracy behind the protest against the aircraft against the chief minister.

However, a Kerala court granted him bail on the same day.
