YouTuber solves case by finding car of teen missing since 2000

A 42-year-old YouTuber has solved the 21-year-old cold case of two missing teenagers in Tennessee, United States. Jeremy Sides, who runs a YouTube channel called ‘Exploring with Nags’, uses his sonar equipment to dive into rivers and lakes to conduct searches. On December 4, Sides premiered a 20-minute video on his YouTube channel, which showed him investigating and locating a submerged car at the bottom of the Calfkiller River. When he dived to look for the number plate, it was discovered that it was the match stick of the car in which the two teenagers went missing.

According to a 2012 report by Knox News, on the night of April 3, 2000, 18-year-old Erin Foster and 17-year-old Jeremy Bechtel attended a party. The teen was last seen that night at around 10 p.m. in Foster’s car, a black Pontiac Grand Am. After that they went missing. The authorities found the case shocking as it was the two victims they could not find. There was no crime scene and no evidence.

After 21 years, Sides chose the case to investigate, because it matched his skill – diving in lakes and rivers. Last month, the parties searched some nearby lakes and found nothing. Then he came to the Calfkiller River. On the evening of 30 November, Sides’ sonar device showed that there was a car-sized object at the bottom of the river. The next morning, the parties dived to find the sunken vehicle and took out its license plate. Then they compared it with the case details and it was a match.

In the video, Sides can be seen calling White County Sheriff Steve Page to report his findings. The video also includes Sides meeting with the sheriff when the sheriff calls him a “Hero of White County”.

The Foster and Bechtel case was reopened as a result of the parties’ revelations. Authorities claim to have found human remains and articles of missing teenagers. According to a New York Times report, officers told Bechtel’s father that they thought the teen had been in a car accident.
