‘Yuvraj Singh advised me to bat deep on set’: Shubman Gill reveals chat with veteran batsman ahead of ZIM Tour

Shubman Gill reveals he met the veteran India Ahead of the Zimbabwe tour, batsman Yuvraj Singh and interacted with him. Gill has impressed many with his consistent performances with the bat in the last two ODI series against West Indies and Zimbabwe. He was named Player of the Series in both tours, scoring 450 runs in 6 matches at an astonishing average of 112.50.

The 22-year-old batsman talks with wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan on BCCI.tv after the third ODI, which India won by 13 runs to clean sweep 3-0.

Gill told the wicket-keeper batsman that he had met Yuvraj before the tour as the former cricketer had advised him to bat deeper which would increase his chances of scoring a century.

“I met him before coming to Zimbabwe and he told me that I was batting well. He advised me that if I get set, I should bat deep. I was telling him that 100 is not coming (I am not getting 100). He told me not to worry, it will come,” Gill said.

Yuvraj heaped praise on the talented India batsman after scoring his maiden international century on Monday.

“Finally!!! Well played @ShubmanGill you seriously deserved that ton! Congratulations on your first 100. This is just the beginning for many more to come,” Yuvraj wrote on Twitter.

Gill looked in total control during his scintillating innings of 130 runs in the third ODI, which included 15 fours and a six.

Apart from scoring his maiden century, Gill took a crucial catch of centurion Sikandar Raza, which completely shifted the momentum in India’s favour.

“We didn’t expect the game to be so tough, but this is cricket. When the ball went into the air, at first I thought it would come at me at an easy pace, but the ball was going down. So I just dived and took the catch,” said Gill.


During the conversation, Kishan pulled Gill’s leg and called him lazy and said that he was a little worried when Raza’s ball went into the air.

“As a protector and friend, I know how lazy he is. So I was also a little worried, but I know he is safe,” Kishan said.

While the Indian batsman replied and said, “Did you see my diving save, was he lazy?”
