The General Staff of Ukraine’s armed forces said on Friday it had “rejected” at least five Russian attacks in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine in the past 24 hours.
The military said Russian forces tried to engage in conflict and storm surge operations “with the help of separate units and sabotage and reconnaissance groups” in the two areas around Donetsk. It was added that the attack was unsuccessful, and the Russian troops “withdrew”. [their] previous post. ,
Ukraine’s military said some units of Russia’s 150th Motorized Rifle Division suffered “significant losses” [of] At least 50% of the staff, weapons and equipment ”in the vicinity of Popasna, about 50 kilometers (31 mi) south-west of Severodnetsk.
It said it believed “the morale of enemy personnel has plummeted” due to the “repeated postponement of their rotation”.
The military said that Russia “failed” to attack in two areas, and “withdrew after losses” in the Slovak region west of Severodnetsk.
Russia also launched a “failed assault campaign” in the Bakhmut region.
But despite the losses exposed by the Ukrainian army, Russia continued heavy shelling in the east.
Ukraine’s Joint Forces Task Force said in a separate update on Friday that Russian forces had been attacking 28 areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the past.
The task force said at least seven civilians were killed and eight others were injured. The statement said that 1,472 people have been evacuated from hostile areas in the past.
About 80 buildings were destroyed or damaged, including factories, three fire stations and residential properties. The task force said that five major fires were caused by Russian shelling in the area, and “in many cases, fire and rescue units were caught on fire and were forced to return to their places.”
The General Staff of the Armed Forces said that fighting continues in the center of Severodnetsk. About 80% of the city is now under the control of the Russian military.
In the northeast, there were missile attacks on civilian infrastructure in Sumi and three residential areas were shelled, the military said.
The military also said that Russian forces “continue to prepare for an attack” in Kharkiv, firing artillery and several rocket launchers in five areas.
