Zerodha’s Nitin Kamath shares wife’s cancer journey. Why did he save his head bald?

Congratulating his wife on Women’s Day, Zerodha’s Nitin Kamath shared his wife’s story and lessons learned from her journey when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2021.

“My wife, Seema was diagnosed with breast cancer last November. She shared her journey and learnings so far to create awareness about cancer and the importance of regular health checkups, health insurance and overall health and wellbeing. Well decided, Happy Women’s Day,” he said in a tweet.

In blog Shared by his wife about his journey, he said, “I tried everything I could to stay healthy and felt I couldn’t do anything physically until I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2021. Can’t slow down. Stage 2 cancer and no more than 2 years old. The past few months since my diagnosis have been a blurry and emotional roller coaster.”

On how she came to know about her cancer, she said that she had regular full body health checkups for many years. The mammogram showed a small lump in her right breast.

Even though she had no symptoms, she decided to visit an oncologist, who performed a biopsy, followed by a PET scan that confirmed the lump was cancerous and localized to the breasts.

Both Nitin and his wife went bald together. He agreed to go bald until his wife’s hair grew again. “Having a bald Nitin around me has helped me to style my new hairstyle now. I can continue to be bald after my chemo,” she said.

“Today, cancer is curable unless it’s too late to be detected. I’m using every opportunity to talk about the importance of health screening, even if you look and feel healthy. As a takeaway from reading this, I would love if you could talk to as many people as possible about the importance of regular health checkups,” she added in her post.

Apart from barring the core issue of cancer, and hoping that others come out and share their experiences and spread awareness, there are other lessons that they shared.
