Ayodhya: A total of 15,000 bank checks worth over Rs 22 crore, which were donated Ram Mandir Trust Bounced by devotees across the country. These are now being returned to donors.
According to an audit report released by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the trust has so far received donations of over Rs 3,400 crore for the construction of the building. Ram temple in Ayodhya,
Giving details of the donations, the report mentioned a total of 74 people who donated more than Rs 1 crore each. Another 127 donated between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1 crore; 123 people donated from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh; While 927 donated between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. A total of 1,428 people donated between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh while 31,663 people donated between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
The report also revealed that the largest number of donors whose checks bounced came from Ayodhya, where more than 2,000 originated out of a total of 15,000 bounced checks.
Ayodhya office in-charge of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust Prakash Gupta told TOI that though checks bounced due to various technical reasons, the main reason was “inadequate balance”.
“We are going through the checks and preparing a report to analyze the reasons cited by banks for check bounce and take remedial measures. In many cases, it’s small things like spelling mistakes, overwriting, or signature mismatches. We are returning those checks to the donors and demanding fresh cheques, which we will again present to the banks,” Gupta said.
