5.0 magnitude earthquake strikes Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said on July 5 that an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 on the Richter scale struck Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 5.57 am today.

The earthquake occurred at around 5.57 am, 215 km ESE of Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, said the National Center for Seismology

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 44 km from the bay.

In a tweet, it wrote, “Earthquake of magnitude: 5.0, 05-07-2022, 05:57:04 IST, Latitude: 10.54 & Long: 94.36, Depth: 44 km, Location: 215 km ESE occurred at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India.”

Earlier at 2.54 am, a tremor of 4.4 magnitude was also felt 244 km southeast of Port Blair.

According to the NCS, a series of earthquakes have been reported on the island.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 struck 244 km south east of PortBlair, 4.4 m at 2.13 pm, 251 km NNE of Campbell Bay, 1.48 m at 1.48 m SE of Port Blair, NCS shows a 5.0 magnitude earthquake.

At 1.30 pm, a magnitude 4.5 hit 262 km north of Campbell Bay.

Earlier, 258 km SE of 4.5m Port Blair at 1.07 hrs, 199 km ESE of 4.3m PortBlair at 12.46 hrs, 218 km SE of 4.6m Port Blair at 12.03 hrs, NCS shows.
