50-year-old “best picture of a UFO ever taken” goes viral

Image of UFO released on Twitter by Esteban Carranza.

A 50-year-old picture is doing the rounds on the internet, with claims that an unidentified flying object (UFO) is visible in it. Published by several media outlets and shared widely on Twitter, the black and white photograph shows a saucer-like object over Costa Rica.

Users say this is the best picture ever taken of a UFO (supposedly used by aliens). According to a report in the Daily Star, it was clicked by aerial photographer Sergio Loiza in September 1971, when he flew over Costa Rica on a mission to survey land for the construction of a hydroelectric project.

The project was planned near the Arenal volcano in the South American country.

Mr. Loiza took several high resolution photos from 10,000 feet below the lake and the surrounding rainforest at 20-second intervals using his automated 100lb camera.

In one frame, a shiny metal disc is seen flying between Mr. Loiza’s Aero Commander F680 aircraft and the ground. Initially the picture was not very clear, but the claims about UFOs started circulating only when it was later extended.

That photo was the property of National Geographic Costa Rica, which ordered surveys to be conducted to study the potential impact of the hydroelectric project on the surrounding land and water.

It has now been released by Esteban Carranza, a citizen of Costa Rica (Twitter handle @UAP_CR). Mr Carranza has a “contact” copy of the original negative in the National Archives of Costa Rica. He got it from his uncle who got the copy from the National Geographic Institute.

“I did this high-resolution scan last year, met with the folks at the National Geographic Institute and tracked down the technician in charge of the camera in 1971. But there’s no reason for the image to sit on my desktop. Disclosure is a team effort and every Somebody must have this image,” Mr Carranza said on Twitter.

UAP MediaThe one who used the image said that it has not been successfully discarded till date.

“Over the years the image has been analyzed by various experts such as Costa Rican UFO researcher Ricardo Vilchez, Dr. Richard Haines and Dr. Jacques Vallée. They all concluded that the object in the photograph appeared to be real and that it was double exposure or intentional The result of the construction was not.” UAP Media Said on their website.

The diameter of the object in the photo is estimated to be between 120-220 feet.
