7 injured in explosion at BPCL oil depot near Bhopal

Seven people were injured in an explosion while filling petrol in a tanker container at a depot of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Two of the seven are reported to have been seriously injured in the blast.

The incident took place on the outskirts of Bhopal, an official said on Saturday. Khajuri police station in-charge Sandhya Mishra said that the incident took place on Friday evening at the oil depot located in Bakania area.

BPCL said in a statement that the ‘unexpected fire’ is being investigated. Sandhya Mishra said, “Seven people were injured in the blast. Six of them are drivers or helpers of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) who had gone there to fill fuel in their tankers, while one is an employee of BPCL.”

The SHO said that two of them were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. While the actual reason is yet to be determined, the police official said that a short-circuit could be the reason.

In a statement, state-run BPCL said, “An unexpected fire broke out on October 21 at our POL depot at Bakania near Bhopal at around 7:30 am while filling a tank lorry. The staff members present and took immediate action on the fire. was quickly extinguished with available resources.”

“Six crew personnel of three tank lorries of Hindustan Petroleum, which were being loaded, and a contractor employee were injured in the incident and were immediately rushed to a hospital where they are undergoing treatment,” the statement said. “

It was committed to high safety standards in operations and Friday’s incident was being investigated, it said.
