More than 1500 obsolete and archaic acts will be repealed in the upcoming session of Parliament: Rijiju | India News – Times of India

SHILLONG: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants less government role in people’s lives and the Center will repeal over 1500 old and obsolete laws during the winter session of Parliament.
Rijiju while addressing the ‘Rozgar Mela’ program here said that obsolete laws are a hindrance in the normal life of common people and they are not relevant in the present times and do not deserve to be in the law books.
Rijiju said, “The prime minister’s wish is to reduce the burden of compliance for the people, to ensure that they can live as peacefully as possible. He wants less government role in the lives of the common people.”
Modi on Saturday launched the employment fair, a recruitment drive for 10 lakh personnel.
“We (NDA government at the Centre) have decided to remove all obsolete archaic laws from the law as unnecessary laws are a burden for the common man. We have decided to repeal more than 1500 laws in the winter session of Parliament. I am ready to introduce many more repeal acts.”
He said that the laws are meant to bring justice to the common people and not to harass them. They are meant to lay down certain mechanisms to ensure that the lives of ordinary people are as normal as possible.
Rijiju praised the NPP-led government in Meghalaya, but expressed a desire that the BJP should be given a greater role in the government for the greater benefit of the common people.
Meghalaya Assembly elections are due in about four months.
Rijiju said the Center is paying special attention to the Northeast and there is no reason why the region will lag behind in any field.
“It is the BJP’s desire to make the Northeast prosperous and India a powerful nation. The party wants to fulfill the goals set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India prosperous and fully developed by 2047,” he said.
The Union Minister said that the Ministry of Home Affairs is looking into the demand of the people to start an ILP in Meghalaya to investigate outsiders in the state.
“Since ILP is a local demand, the government has to take a collective decision keeping in mind the larger interest of all,” he said.
