700 people evacuated in Gujarat amid heavy rains, red alert in Telangana

In the wake of heavy rains lashing several parts of the state, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday held a meeting with district collectors to review the measures taken to deal with the situation. Ahmedabad received heavy rains on Sunday, raising the water level of some rivers, causing flooding in various low-lying areas, creating a flood-like situation. Due to the ongoing rescue operation on Sunday, around 700 people were shifted to safer places.

Apart from this, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided to keep the school-college in Ahmedabad closed even today. heavy rain Battered various districts including Valsad, Navsari, Tapi and others. Notably, Paldi, Vasna and Ellis Bridge areas received maximum rainfall of 241.3 mm.

For now, the rain has stopped in some areas, but Water logging in Ahmedabad, Paldi, Bodakdev, Osmanpura and Jodhpur. Five underpasses have been closed. A portion of a bridge collapsed in Chhota Udaipur on Sunday due to heavy rains. The Auranga river came in spate and due to heavy rains, the low-lying areas of Valsad district also witnessed flood-like situation. NDRF teams and local administration are engaged in relief and rescue work in the area.

In another development, a red alert was sounded for eight districts of Telangana namely Jaishankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mancherial, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Adilabad and capital Hyderabad. According to reports, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday ordered top officials to take immediate measures to prevent loss of life and property in view of the weather department’s warning against continuous heavy rains in the state for two consecutive days. Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that all schools and colleges would remain closed for three days from Monday to Wednesday as part of the preliminary measures.

During this, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with top officials at Pragati Bhavan and inquired about the water situation in the state’s ponds, ponds, dams and reservoirs due to heavy rains and instructions have been issued to the higher officials for safety. Measures to be taken in low-lying areas and flood prone areas.
