Som Pradosh Vrat 2022: Significance, method of worship, auspicious time and mantra

Pradosh Vrat is observed to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This occasion comes twice in every month according to the Hindu calendar. According to the Panchang, the first Pradosh fast of this month falls on July 11. The next fast is on July 25.

People believe that if a devotee observes Pradosh Vrat with pure dedication and devotion, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati bless him with all the best things in life. Those who miss the fast by any means can visit the temple and perform abhishekam before the deities.

It is considered highly auspicious to offer makeup items to Goddess Parvati by female devotees on this holy day. These items include sweets, fruits and dry fruits along with clothes, lipstick, kajal, sindoor, bangles, mehndi and bindi.

rituals

Devotees keep a fast from sunrise till dusk to worship Lord Shiva. Prayers and worship are performed during twilight. Shiva Linga is bathed with milk, curd and ghee. Bel leaves are also offered on Shivling. Once all the rituals are completed, the devotees listen to the Pradosh Vrat Katha.

Pradosh Puja Muhurta is from 7:22 PM to 9:24 PM. On this day Trayodashi Tithi will remain from 11:13 am to 7:46 am on 12th July.

auspicious time

The Shubh Brahma Muhurta starts at 4:10 am till 4:50 am while the second Shubh Muhurta-Abhijit starts at 11:59 am and ends at 12:54 pm.

mantra

The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is chanted 108 times on this occasion and it is as follows:

“O Tryambhakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam Urvarukamiva Bandhan Mrityyor Muktiya Mamrit”
