Mr Rai said that the government has a zero tolerance policy against terrorism and has initiated peace talks with insurgent groups from the northeastern states who renounce violence, lay down arms and resolve their problems peacefully within the framework of the Constitution. want.

As a result of this, several insurgent groups have come forward for talks and entered into suspension of operations and some of them have signed MoUs and dissolved themselves, he said in the Rajya Sabha.

The Minister said that those who are not being talked to are being dealt with by the Central Armed Police Forces, the Armed Forces and the State Police through anti-insurgency operations.

“Due to the above strategy, the security situation in the northeastern states has improved significantly since 2014,” he said in a written reply.

Compared to 2014, there has been a 74 per cent reduction in militancy incidents, 89 per cent civilian deaths and 60 per cent reduction in the casualties of security forces in the Northeast as compared to 2014, he said.

Mr Rai said that though law and order is a State subject, the Central Government is supporting the efforts of the State Governments of the region to maintain law and order and curb illegal and illegal activities through various measures.
