Aadhaar authority warns people against sharing photocopies, cites misuse

New Delhi:

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has warned people not to share photocopies of Aadhaar with any organization citing misuse of Aadhaar.

The authority has suggested the use of masked Aadhaar which displays only the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number which can be downloaded from the official website of UIDAI https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.

The existence of any Aadhaar number can be verified at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/verifyAadhaar. To verify offline, you can scan the QR code on e-Aadhaar or Aadhaar letter or Aadhaar PVC card using the QR code scanner in the mAadhaar mobile application, informed UIDAI.

The release said, “Please avoid using public computers in Internet cafes/kiosks for downloading e-Aadhaar. However, if you do so, please ensure that you access all downloaded e-Aadhaar Permanently delete the copies from that computer.”

“Only organizations that have obtained a user license from UIDAI can use Aadhaar to establish the identity of an individual. Unlicensed private entities like hotels or film halls are allowed to collect or keep copies of Aadhaar cards.” No. It is an offence. Aadhaar Act 2016. If any private entity demands to view Aadhar card or ask for photocopy of Aadhar card, please verify that they have valid user license from UIDAI.”
