Delhi: AAP will appoint Sandeep Pathak, who was in charge of elections for Punjab and Gujarat, as the party’s national general secretary (organisation). Although Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won only five out of 181 seats in the Gujarat Assembly elections, it got nearly 13 per cent vote share. Kejriwal had said that AAP did not win many seats, but the votes polled by the party helped it get the status of a national party. Pathak, who is a Rajya Sabha member, was election in-charge for Punjab and Gujarat and will be appointed as AAP’s national general secretary (organisation), party sources said on Tuesday.

AAP got the status of a national party on the 9th of this month. “Due to the votes given by the people of Gujarat, AAP is becoming a national party today. Politics of education and health is making its mark for the first time in the country. Congratulations to the entire nation for this.” CM Manish Sisodia said in a tweet in Hindi.

AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also expressed happiness over the party’s victory. He said, “We are thankful to the people of Gujarat, because of whom we got this recognition… AAP managed to achieve the status of a national party in just 10 years. This is the pace of development of this party. Got lakh votes. All the leaders worked hard and visited the rural areas of Gujarat.
