African Cup | Senegal bests 9-man Cape Verde

Sadio Mane rose from a terrifying head-on collision that smacked him to the ground, possibly on the run, scoring a goal and helping Senegal reach the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations on Tuesday.

Senegal won 2–0 against Cape Verde, sending two players in the last 16 games to the western city of Bafosam in Cameroon. The Liverpool star did not finish the match and was later taken to hospital, although he said on social media that he was doing fine.

magical

Morocco followed Senegal in the last eight after beating Malawi 2–1 from behind. The Moroccan return was completed by a magical free kick from Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi, who swung the ball over the wall and into the top corner for the winner in the 70th minute.

In the Senegal–Cape Verde game, Cape Verde’s second red card was awarded to goalkeeper Vozinha after he went out of his zone and tried to clear the ball while chasing Mane.

bad fight

The players’ heads were badly hit as they leaped into the air, and Wojinha apparently continued to make a move as he tried to get up and ended up staggering around.

Wozinha went on a stretcher and was not around to see red card referee Lahlu Benbrahm stopping by for him.

But Mane’s permission to continue will be questioned when he first fell to the ground after the collision, rolled over and lay on his back for a moment, clearly stunned.

Result (Last-16): Senegal 2 (Mane 63, Dieng 90+2) bt Cape Verde 0; Morocco 2 (N-Nesiri 45+2, Hakimi 70) bt Malawi 1 (Mhango 7),
