Air India inks mega deal for 470 aircraft with Airbus, Boeing; First aircraft delivery by the end of 2023 | 10 points

Air India’s 470 aircraft deal: Airbus India chief Remy Maillard said on Tuesday that Airbus will hand over the first A350 aircraft to Air India by the end of 2023. Remy Maillard further said that the order of 40 A350 aircraft by Air India also marks the ‘strong return’ of Airbus to the large-size market in India. Air India on Tuesday announced the acquisition of 250 and 220 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing respectively. Sources said the deal to acquire 470 aircraft from the two companies is estimated to be worth $80 billion.

  1. Air India signs letter of intent to acquire modern fleet/aircraft. The order includes 40 Airbus A350s, 20 Boeing 787s and 10 Boeing 777-9s widebody aircraft, as well as 210 Airbus A320/321 Neos and 190 Boeing 737 MAX single-aisle aircraft.
  2. The A350 aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce engines, and the B777/787s will be powered by GE Aerospace’s engines. The airline said all single-aisle aircraft will be powered by engines from CFM International.

Speaking after the airline’s landmark deals with Airbus and Boeing, Air India chief Campbell Wilson said, “Meanwhile, our capacity growth will be supported by the previously announced lease-in and reinstatement of additional narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.” Will be done. -To service the remainder of our grounded fleet.”
