All the issues have been resolved, says Sidhu; To continue as Punjab Congress chief

Harish Rawat claimed that Mr Sidhu assured Mr Gandhi of withdrawing his resignation.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday claimed that all issues have been resolved after a meeting at former party chief Rahul Gandhi’s residence.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat, who was present at the meeting, claimed that Mr. Sidhu has assured Mr. Gandhi of withdrawing his resignation.

“He [Mr. Sidhu] Share your concerns with Rahul Gandhi. We have told them that their concerns will be taken care of. He assured Rahul Gandhi that he has withdrawn his resignation and he will resume his duties as PCC president,” Rawat told reporters.

Mr Sidhu, however, remained somewhat ambiguous.

“Whatever concerns I had, I shared with Rahul ji and everything has been sorted out,” Mr Sidhu told reporters after the meeting. Asked if he would continue in his post as PPCC chief, he said, “Whatever I am doing is in front of you.”

Subsequently, sharing a video of his interaction with journalists, he tweeted, “I have shared my concerns with @RahulGandhi ji, he was assured that they would be resolved”.

This was the first meeting between Mr Gandhi and Mr Sidhu after the Punjab Congress chief surprised Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on September 28 by posting his resignation on Twitter in protest against some government appointments.

On Thursday, Mr Rawat, Mr Sidhu and Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal held an hour-long meeting, after which Mr Sidhu said he had full faith in the leadership of the Gandhi family.

“I have conveyed my concerns regarding Punjab and Punjab Congress to the high command. I have full faith in Congress President Priyanka ji and Rahul ji. I am sure that whatever decision they will take, it will be in favor of Punjab and State Congress. I have always considered him supreme and will always follow his orders,” Mr Sidhu had said after meeting Mr Venugopal and Mr Rawat on Thursday.
